Peggy Raley, a jazz singer, founded Delaware’s first and largest winery, Nassau Valley Winery, in 1993. The winery is situated on an eight-acre estate at 32165 Winery Way in Lewes, Delaware, USA.
Every Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., Nassau Valley Vineyards hosts a farmer’s market with live music by various artists. A full bar with Nassau Valley wine and other local vendors is available. Local products such as art, crafts, honey, and jams can be purchased at the market.
The winery grows, produces, and sells its own wine. Nassau Valley Winery makes white and red wines that are both sweet and dry. Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot are among the wines produced by Nassau Winery.
You can take a self-guided tour of Nassau Valley during operating hours for free. For $10 per person, you can also enjoy a wine tasting and take your tasting glass home. 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (dry) – a Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot blend. It has peppery and smoky flavors and is made with red plum and licorice.
2017 Chardonnay (Dark, Oak Aged) – with lemon and caramel aromas and flavors of light lemon, vanilla, and spice.
2017 Merlot “Adrift” (Dry)- made in the traditional French style, with a smoky raspberry aroma and tannins and fruit flavors.
2019 Peach Ambrosia (semi-sweet white wine) – Pure ripe peach aroma from fermented peach juice with no additives. It has a sweet taste and a peach aroma. Lewes, Delaware
2016 “Indian River Red” Vinter’s Blend (Dry)- a Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot blend aged in new French oak for 13 months, has a leathery, smokey, and black cherry aroma. It has a spicy, peppery flavor with hints of plum, fruit, and tannins.
